Robbie Robinson has been involved in the drum corps activity from the age of nine when he began his marching career with the Tri Community Cadets of Newtown Square, PA. By the time Rob was a sophomore in high school he was marching in the Crossmen snareline and would be a mainstay in the Crossmen percussion program for seven years. In 1981 Rob spent a year with the World Champion Blue Devils of Concord, California at which time he became an endorsee for the Ludwig Drum Company. During his junior corps marching days Rob was crowned DCI Individual Snare Drumming Champion 3 times between 1979 and 1982. His success as a world renowned solo snare drummer earned him much respect throughout the drum corps community and the world of percussion. Mr. Robinson has performed throughout the country at percussion clinics and events sponsored by PAS, DCI and other educational institutions.
In 1983 Robbie began his teaching and writing career with the Reading Buccaneers and by 1984 had led them to their first DCA high percussion award in over a decade. He spent eight years with the Buccaneers before moving on to the Bushwackers in 1991. Rob had a four year run with Bush that saw some of the most innovative and powerful percussion programs in the history of the corps and helped in leading the infamous 1993 Bushwackers to an undefeated season. Mr. Robinson has also instructed and written for the marching percussion programs of the Skyliners, Hawthorne Caballeros and West Chester University Golden Rams to name a few. He has been an adjudicator with the National Judges Association and Drum Corps Associates. Rob is currently a clinician for Ludwig Drums and the Conn-Selmer Corporation. He is an educational team member with Vic Firth and a member of the National Association of Rudimental Drummers. In 2007 Rob was inducted into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame. The year 2012 saw his return to the competitive stage of solo snare drumming as he brought home his fourth national title by winning the DCA best individual snare drumming award. Aside from his passion for the marching arts Rob is currently pursuing a degree in psychology and is an addictions counselor at Father Martin’s Ashley in his hometown of Havre de Grace, Maryland.
