The Bushwackers are excited to report that our 2014 season Open House was a huge success! This kickoff of our 33rd season was attended by over 140 prospective members, veteran members, volunteers, and parents. Those in attendance were welcomed by Corps Director Bob Gupta, and enjoyed meeting the new and returning Corps Administration, Design Team, and Staff. Met with cheers and excited applause, Program Coordinator Minesh Shah then hyped the crowd while detailing our 2014 Program “The Resistants”. The members then broke out into sections to get their first chance to work with their respective staff members.
The percussion section had a huge turnout, with prospective members showing off their skills and diving into their technique program. The Color Guard had a great turnout, with the members participating in a dance session as well as a spinning technique block. The brass section had an awesome 47 performers present, allowing the staff to teach the beginnings of an advanced technique program, chorale music, and show music. After a quick snack break, the members moved into an ensemble rehearsal block.
The extremely productive day culminated with the entire Corps assembled together where they performed a “Show and Tell” session for alumni, parents, and each other. The percussion section showed off their ability to work quickly and demonstrated the technique taught throughout the day. The Color Guard performed a short routine for the audience involving modern dance and flag technique, and the Brass blew the crowd away with a power chorale and the first two minutes of the opener.
Overall, everyone left with a smile on their face and the buzz was deafening with the members looking forward to returning for our first winter camp rehearsal on December 14-15 in Princeton, NJ.
