This will be Mike Swiren’s first season on staff with the Bushwackers Drum and Bugle Corps. Prior to his involvement with the Bushwackers organization Mike marched three years (2010, 2011, 2013) with the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps out of Allentown, Pennsylvania. His 2011 season was marked with a DCI World Championship win.
Originally from Maple Glen, PA, Mike graduated from Upper Dublin High School and has since attended the University of Delaware studying Music Education with a concentration in Tuba. Mike currently studies with Professor Brian Brown (Philadelphia Pops Orchestra, NFL Films) and anticipates graduating with his degree in the Spring of 2014. While at the University of Delaware, Mike has acted as Drill Coordinator as well as drum major for the UD Marching Band. Mike has been able to work closely with marching band gurus Heidi Sarver, James Ancona, and others during his tenure with the Cadets and UDMB.
As a performer, Mike has been fortunate enough to perform in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Band at UD, but has also performed on stage
In addition to performing on tuba, Mike is also a noted arranger, arranging musicfor many different types of ensembles including the small chamber ensembles of the Project Music, a musical outreach program at the University of Delaware.
