The Bushwackers Drum & Bugle Corps has expanded its scope and size over the past two years, and along with growth comes an increased number of support volunteers needed to keep the Corps operating smoothly. Many parents, teachers, and alumni give the Corps countless volunteer hours each year to keep the Corps running on all fronts. We can never have too many – and the Corps is in search of a few special people to join our team of volunteer administrators and help keep our member experience at a premium.

College Student Interns
The Bushwackers have a great opportunity for select College Students to participate in a full internship and learn the inner workings of a Non-Profit organization. Those majoring in Public Relations, Media, Business Management, Hospitality, Non-Profit Management, and other fields where workforce and real-life applications are needed are encouraged to to apply for an internship with the Bushwackers. We will work with your advisers and course of study to make sure you get the experience desired, as well as credit for your work when possible.
Fundraising and Development Manager
As a Non-Profit organization, the Bushwackers relies on the generousity of our alumni and supporters, along with the corporate support of the community to help fund our organization. With roughly half of our budget being based on fundraising, this position is one of the most critical to have someone dedicated to. The Corps is in search of that one person who loves what our mission stands for, and can be motivated to entice the community and alumni to continue the support of the Corps from year to year. The following skills are suggested, but not required, for this position:
- Corporate Matching and Gift Programs
- Alumni and Supporter Fundraising Campaigns
- Member based fundraising events
- Grant writing and proposals
- Community activism and networking
Foodservice Manager
The Bushwackers feed our members every single weekend we are together. Breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks have to be pre-planned, menus created, shopping executed, and food preparation accomplished. Our current managers need helps achieving these goals weekly. The Foodservice manager should have experience in:
- Menu Planning and Food Preparation for 150+ people
- Creativity in Cost Management and Budget Controls
- Ability to learn about and implement a nutrition program that serves our members’ needs
- Knowledge in Food Bank and Retail Donation procurement
- The ability to manage a small group of volunteers in executing the foodservice plan each weekend
Foodservice Volunteer
Volunteer your time preparing and serving healthy meals to our members and staff. Any level of cooking and service experience is welcomed. Time commitment can be just one day to a full summer of weekends. Any and all help is welcomed
Truck Driver/Equipment Quartermaster
The Bushwackers Drum Corps owns and operates a towed race-car trailer that houses all of our equipment and instruments. We often have to rent a pickup truck to tow this trailer on rehearsal and performance weekends, or rely on supporters offering the use of privately owned vehicles. The Corps needs someone dedicated to getting our stuff down the road either by using a rented truck and towing, or using a privately owned vehicle and towing our trailer at the cost of the Corps. No CDL License is required for this position. The Truck Driver must have the following experience, or the ability to be trained in:
- Hitching/unhitching a ball-hitch trailer system with electric brakes
- The ability to operate or provide a vehicle that can tow in excess of 8,000lbs gvw
- The skills to safely maneuver a 30 foot box trailer on backroads and highways
- Basic repair and handyman skills to provide for small repairs on Corps owned equipment and construction projects
Truck/Equipment Volunteer
There is always a need for help in organizing, loading, unloading, and transporting our equipment. We also need people who are handy in small repair, construction, and other areas. This role is great for those who have done “pit crew” or similar activities within the marching arts.
Uniform/Sewing/Tailoring Volunteer
There is a constant need for assistance in getting our members fitted and tailored into our uniforms and costumes. Repairs are always needed with a rigorous performance schedule such as our Corps’. Each weekend there are jackets that need to be fixed, hems needed in pants, flags needed to be repaired, etc. Grab a needle and jump right in, we never can have enough lifesavers!
Van Driver/Transportation Volunteer
The Corps often needs a crew of drivers for passenger vans, box trucks, and private vehicles. During camps or performance days, there is always a quick errand or train station pickup that needs to be done, and helping with these tasks allows other administrators to not be taken away from their tasks. Consider helping drive to a show, or be the train station shuttle driver for the weekend. Its easy and you are a tremendous help!
