In order to have a successful corps, the Bushwackers are looking for a few great volunteers and interns to join our team of dedicated parents, teachers, alumni, and friends. These volunteers work behind the scenes and with the members to give them every possible opportunity to excel in their performance.
Are you ready to help the corps and be an integral part of the 35th anniversary year of the Bushwackers Drum & Bugle Corps? Review the open positions listed here, and if you believe you can fit some of our needs, complete the contact form. If none of the available positions fit, let us know what you’d love to do! We can never have too much help.
Available internships and volunteer positions.
The Bushwackers have a great opportunity for select college students to participate in a full internship and experience the inner workings of a nonprofit organization. We encourage students studying fields where workforce and real-life applications are necessary to apply for an internship with the Bushwackers, a nonprofit organization. We will work with your collegiate advisers to make sure you get the experience desired and credit for your work when possible. Any of these positions are open to potential interns or volunteers.
Operation internships and volunteers. Depending on your experience and desires, we can design your responsibilities around your course needs. Whether you’re majoring in public relations, media, business management, hospitality, nonprofit management, or other related fields, your help is needed in planning the logistics of operating a drum and bugle corps. Some examples of internship roles include fundraising intern, facilities intern, grant-writing intern, and community relations intern.
Athletic training internship or volunteer. The members of a drum and bugle corps like the Bushwackers have exceptional fitness and athletic needs. For the 35th anniversary year of the Bushwackers, we are looking for an athletic training intern to assist the corps with fundamental stretching, exercise, and proactive prevention of injuries. The athletic trainer may also assist with injury recognition, rehabilitative care, medical management, and first responder care.
Social media internship or volunteer. For a student studying marketing or any individual with a strong understanding of online social media, this position provides a great opportunity to provide a voice for the Bushwackers organization. Working directly with the public relations and marketing team, the social media intern or volunteer will help develop a strategy for communicating with the public. Responsibilities could include posting on the Bushwackers social media channels, including building new social media opportunities using video and other multimedia.
Video production internship or volunteer. If you have videography and production skills, we need you to help produce material for the Bushwackers. Starting with Open House on November 22, we would like to produce short “camp updates” as well as promotional videos. Requirements are your own recording and editing equipment and software. This is great for someone looking to get into the business of video production.
Food service managers and assistants. The Bushwackers feed members of the organization every single weekend the corps is together. With the other food service managers, those assisting with food service help plan breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and stacks. This includes planning menus, shopping for ingredients and tools, and preparing the meals on-site. We also have a food budget that must be adhered to.
Our current managers need help achieving these goals. Food service managers should have several years’ experience in the following, while assistants should exhibit the willingness to succeed:
- Menu planning and food preparation for 100 people
- Creativity in cost management and budget controls
- Ability to learn about and implement a nutrition program that serves our members’ needs
- Knowledge in food bank and retail donation procurement
Food service managers should also be able to manage a small group of volunteers in executing the food service plan each weekend.
Truck/equipment volunteers. We are looking for equipment managers to assist with a variety of needs related to the corps’ instruments, show materials, and vehicles. Not only is there a need for help in organizing, loading, unloading, and transporting our equipment, but we expect to need help transporting some materials on and off the field of performance. Anyone has been on a “pit crew” within the marching arts activity would have the right experience for this role. Join the Bushwackers pit crew!
Uniform manager. There is a constant need for assistance in fitting and tailoring uniforms and costumes and to manage our inventory of uniforms and uniform parts and accessories. Repairs are often needed with a rigorous performance schedule. Every weekend, the uniform manager will fix uniform jackets, hem uniform pants, repair fabric flags, and more. The uniform is a crucial piece of the Bushwackers experience for members, so this is one of the most important volunteer jobs in the corps. Volunteers much be great at working under pressure and creative problem-solving!
Van drivers and transportation volunteers. Every weekend, whether for rehearsals or performances, we have corps members and equipment that must be transported by vehicle from one place to another. We make use of passenger vans, box trucks, private vehicles, and a pick-up truck to tow our equipment trailer. During camps or performance days, there are always quick errands or train-station pickups requiring volunteers who would otherwise be pulled from administrative responsibilities. No CDL necessary!
