Color Guard Coordinator and Designer: Lauryn Heller
Lauryn Heller returns to lead the Bushwackers color guard for her third year in 2018. Lauryn has experienced the world of the marching arts from a very young age, particularly because of her mother’s influence.
She attributes much of her success to her eight years performing with the WGI A Class Finalist Haddon Heights H.S. High Voltage color guard program and its exceptional staff (2002-2009).
After high school, Lauryn marched indoor color guard with The Light Brigade (2010), Alter Ego (2011, 2012), and WGO Independent World Class The Black Watch (2014, 2016). Additionally Lauryn marched six years in The Cadets Color Guard (2008-2013).
Her instructional experience includes Haddon Heights H.S., Washington Township H.S., Surge Independent, DCI World Class Finalist The Cadets (2014, 2015), Bushwackers (2016 to present), DCI World Class Finalists Blue Knights (2016 to present), WGI Independent World Class United Percussion (2017 to present), The Black Watch (2017 to present), and multiple other programs in the tri-state area.
In almost every aspect of her life, Lauryn chooses to dedicate her time and efforts to the growth and support of the youth around her. She has earned an associate’s degree in social services from Gloucester County College (2012) and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rowan University (2015).
By day, she is a kindergarten aftercare teacher at an elementary school in New Jersey. On nights and weekends, she is working with multiple marching arts organizations. Lauryn hopes to continue her education in psychology so that she may follow her passion of helping others. She is very excited for year three!
Caption Lead and Designer: Lance Boggs
Lance Boggs started the performing arts while dancing in the California studio Chico Creek Dance. He continued to dance throughout his high school years, with a focus on hip hop and lyrical, as well as doing cheerleading for four years.
After high school, Lance moved to Seattle, Washington. While living there, he marched with Rhapsody Winter Guard under the direction of Jimmy Fursmen, who Lance credits for teaching him how to effectively run and teach a color guard. While in Washington, he taught North Kitsap High School for four years as well as other schools in the area. In 2013, Lance made the move to New Jersey.
Lance has been a member of WGI Independent World Class The Black Watch from 2014 to 2017, and he is looking forward to marching the 2018 season. Lance is the current color guard caption head at Triton High School and the head designer for their indoor color guard program since 2016. He is also an instructor at Haddon Heights H.S. and Surge Independent, where he collaborates with Lauryn all months of the year!
This will be Lance’s third year working with The Bushwackers and his first as caption lead. He is extremely excited for this new experience and can’t wait for the season to start.
Choreographer and Instructor: Daniel Krasner
Daniel Krasner joined the Bushwackers color guard staff during 2016, a pivotal season for the corps. Two summers later and now hundreds of miles away in the Atlanta Metro Area, Daniel is grateful to continue to be a part of the Bushwackers staff for the 2018 season!
Now 24, Daniel has retired twice from performing after first being introduced to the activity ten years ago. He returns to the activity so he can remind himself what it’s like to be a marching member, discover new ways of thinking about teaching and continue to grow so he can better educate and inspire the next generation of performers.
Daniel’s marching history includes the DCI World Class Finalist Madison Scouts (2013), DCI World Class Finalist The Cadets (2014-2015), Blessed Sacrament (2014), WGI World Class Finalist Alter Ego (2017) and Paramount (2018). Currently, he teaches at Sequoyah High School in Canton, Georgia. He has also worked with Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dudley, Massachusetts and his alma-mater Urbana High School in Ijamsville, Maryland.
Ultimately, Daniel believes a great instructor can look in the mirror and clean his/her own house first. He can’t wait to see what year three with the Bushwackers has in store!
Choreographer and Instructor: Dylan Brierley
Dylan Brierley joins the Bushwackers Drum and Bugle Corps staff for the first time in 2018. Dylan began his marching arts career with Southern Regional High School (2009-2012).
After high school, he marched with WGI Independent World Class Field of View in 2013, 2015, and 2017. Dylan also marched with the Reading Buccaneers in 2014 and DCI World Class Finalists The Cavaliers in 2015.
Dylan’s instructional experience includes Southern Regional High School (2012 to present), Lacey Township High School (2014-2016), and Towson University Winterguard (2014).
Dylan’s drive in life has been to inspire others, and validate that everyone’s dreams are possible. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in the Studies in the Arts, with a concentration in Dance Performance from Stockton University, he had the chance to participate in the Disney College Program and work in the Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando, Florida!
His dream is to return to the Happiest Place on Earth to keep inspiring the young, and the young at heart! Dylan gets to check off on more dream by joining the drum corps staff, and cannot wait to share his life experiences with the Bushwackers color guard!
Instructor: Samantha Burns
Samantha Burns started her marching career with four years in the Washington Township High School Indoor Color Guard (2008-2011). After graduating high school, she marched two years with the Co-Motion Open Winterguard (2012-2013).
She found her love for teaching color guard at Washington Township H.S. in 2012 and has been teaching at WTHS ever since, under the mentorship of Bushwackers Caption Supervisor, Lauryn Heller.
Samantha recently graduated from Rutgers University-Camden with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is currently back at RU-Camden pursuing a master’s degree in social work.
She is thrilled to begin her third season as a part of the Bushwackers color guard staff!
Instructor: Taylor Furman
Taylor Furman began her marching career at Morris Knolls High School in 2006 and is currently on her third year as the director of both of their fall and winter color guard programs. She marched with WGI World Class Finalist Alter Ego in 2015 and will be marching her second consecutive year with WGI World Class The Black Watch during their 2018 season.
She also marched with the Bushwackers color guard during their 2017 season. She is very excited to join the color guard instructional team for the Bushwackers’ 2018 season and work alongside the amazing staff!
