Visual Caption Supervisor: Brendan Murphy
Brendan Murphy is excited to join the Bushwackers staff in 2018. His marching career includes the University of Delaware Marching Band, the Reading Buccaneers, and WGI World Class United Percussion. Brendan was on the instructional staff with Cadets Winter Percussion and Cadets2, where in 2016, he worked as the battery and hornline choreographer winning a 1st place DCA World Championship and High Percussion.
He has been the program coordinator for the Imperial Dynasty WGI indoor percussion since 2017. Brendan joined the percussion staff at DCI World Class Finalist Carolina Crown in 2017 and continues to teach there as a quad technician. He is also currently a percussion and visual adjudicator for USBands.
Visual Caption Lead: Jordan Fisch
Jordan Fisch returns to the Bushwackers for his second season on staff. He graduated from West Chester University in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in music education. While there he served in the role of student coordinator of the West Chester University Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band for three years.
Jordan also marched with the DCI World Class Finalist corps, Crossmen (2006), Boston Crusaders (2007), and The Cadets (2008-2010). Jordan has been working with marching bands in New Jersey and Pennsylvania since 2008 and currently enjoys writing the drill for and working with several competitive local marching bands outside his home town of Jackson, NJ.
Visual Instructor: Mike Phillips
Mike Phillips joins the Bushwackers in 2018 for his first season, and has previously been on the visual staff for Cadets2, serving seasons 2015 through 2017, during which time the corps earned multiple high visual titles.
He began his drum corps career in 2011 at DCI World Class Champion The Cadets, performing in their championship winning program, which brought the corps its tenth title. Mr. Phillips aged out in 2012, receiving the distinguished service award.
Mike graduated from James Madison University in 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Integrated Science and Technology and a minor in Music. While there, he was a member of the concert band and the award winning Marching Royal Dukes. During his stay, Mr. Phillips served on the visual staff, as a section leader for the baritone section, and as a drum major for the 2012 fall season.
Currently based in Richmond, Virginia, he is a software developer for a custom men’s clothier. Mike has previously held the visual coordinator position at Colonial Heights High School, a multi-year Virginia Honor Band.
Visual Instructor: Max Oh
Max Oh began his drum corps career in 2006 as a baritone player for the Hawthorne Caballeros. He would don the kick-pleats for seven seasons (2006-2011, 2013), during which time he discovered an unwavering passion for music that would lead him to pursue a degree in Music Education at The College of New Jersey (Class of 2013).
There, he would hold the position of Principal Euphonium player for their premier wind ensemble during the last three years of his studies, and was also featured multiple times as a student conductor of TCNJ’s Concert Band under the auspices of Professor Rosalind Erwin. He has also held the distinct pleasure in not only leading the College’s various brass ensembles and quintets, but also in occasionally acting as their arranger in residence, having had his transcriptions of Franz Biebl’s Ave Maria, Antonin Dvorak’s New World Symphony, and Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings performed in concert.
Max’s teaching career began in 2009 as a staff member of the Pequannock High School Marching Band in Pompton Plains, NJ. He would teach there through the 2012 competitive season, acting as the assistant marching band director in 2010. Under the leadership of an all-star staff, Pequannock’s students captured two 1st-place finishes at NJ State Championships, as well as two 2nd-place finishes in National competition during his tenure there.
Visual Instructor: Taha Attia
Taha Attia is an avid trumpet player and teacher originally from Colonia, NJ. Having been a player now for over 18 years Taha has gained professional experience through a variety of musical ensembles.
Taha’s marching and musical experience includes Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps in 2011 and 2012, The Bushwackers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2014 through 2017, and for the last three years City Beats, a one of a kind ensemble produced by Gallant Entertainment featuring highly trained musicians that perform for professional sports games in and around New York City.
Taha has taught as caption head with Union City High School, served as an in-line visual technician for the 2017 Bushwackers Drum and Bugle Corps, and joins their staff this upcoming season. Inspired by the leadership of John Malloy and Don Pfleger among others whom he has learned from, Taha is excited to bring a wealth of relevant, current, and technical knowledge to the Bushwackers hornline this season.
