As the summer quickly approaches, the Bushwackers have seen a huge amount of growth in almost every area of the corps. We’ve added a 2nd home show this summer, a new junior program for younger members, Friday and Saturday night sleep-over facilities, and corps membership has almost doubled from last year!
We’ve also had our share of staff that, due to personal issues, they are not able to fulfill their time commitment for their respective positions. Also, with the indoor season now over, the influx of new members called for some expansion of the staff so all members can receive the necessary attention. So it was time to make some adjustments to the staff to meet the growing set of responsibilities facing the administration.
The following staff changes are effective immediately:
Bushwackers Hall of Famer, Brian Law, will be joining the team to teach both the music and visual areas for the brass. Brian’s history with the Bushwackers is legendary and he is a person that can provide guidance in almost every area of the corps, as he has ably demonstrated in his 20+ years with the corps. Brian’s initial focus will be to coordinate the brass team to ensure a top notch brass program, and will then move to other roles as the summer progresses.
Tom Bowitz will take over the reins of the brass caption head position. Tom has been instrumental in defining the brass technique program thus far and the step up in responsibilities happens just about a month before it was planned. Tom and the brass team have already adapted to the change and continue full steam on the already fast moving pace the brass have taken.
Darrell Woodliff and Tara Foley rejoin the Colorguard staff after a year off from teaching the Bushwackers. Their experience and expertise at all levels of the Colorguard activity are certainly an asset to our visual program, and we are excited to have them back.
Bush alumnus, Michael “Stitchy” Grasty also rejoins the corps, this year as a Colorguard design consultant. As a performer, Michael has always had an electrifying presence on the field, and we are excited to have that energy channeled into our choreography and design.
James Hagan will add the administrative role of staff coordinator to his existing responsibilities as Front Ensemble instructor. James has already been taking on duties such as facilities and transportation coordinator as well as cooking meals, and we see James continuing to grow in the administrative areas.
In addition to his long-held position on the Percussion Staff, Sean McReady takes on the role of Digital Technologies & Graphic Design Manager. In addition to the graphics work he has done for the past few seasons, Sean took on the overwhelming task of overhauling the website into a world-class modern design, and in record time! He will continue to refine the Bushwackers brand as well as synergize our efforts in our online presence, social media, and digital media.
