Christopher Drew Dickey is excited to join the 2015 Brass Education Team as a technique and rehearsal consultant. Mr. Dickey currently serves as an educator at the Southwood Academy of the Arts in Anderson, South Carolina, where he teaches courses in instrumental music. Prior to his appointment at Southwood, Mr. Dickey served as Graduate Conducting Associate with the Louisiana State University Bands, where he completed a master’s degree in wind conducting in the spring of 2014.
Prior to his time at LSU, Mr. Dickey held positions as the Director of Choirs and Associate Director of Bands at South Aiken High School in Aiken, South Carolina and as the Director of Bands at Cane Bay High School in Summerville, South Carolina. Concert and marching ensembles under his direction have earned numerous awards and accolades, and he serves as an active judge and clinician throughout the United States.
Mr. Dickey holds the degrees of Master of Music in Music Education from Ithaca College, Master of Music in Wind Conducting from Louisiana State University, and Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of South Carolina. His primary conducting teachers include Professor John Whitwell, Dr. Dennis Llinás, Dr. Don McKinney, Dr. David O’Shields, Dr.Andrew Gowan, and Professor Jim Copenhaver.
Mr. Dickey’s professional affiliations include the College Band Director’s National Association, the National Association for Music Education, theInternational Tuba Euphonium Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Phi MuAlpha Sinfonia.
