Jamie began his musical career in Bound Brook, NJ as a lead trumpet for close to every ensemble available including all-state/ all-county orchestra, jazz, concert, and brass ensembles. Continuing on at Rutgers, he played for similar ensembles including the marching band.
Thanks to the recruiting efforts of Jill DeCristo, Janice Erickson, and Hall of Fame member, Fred Oltarzewski. Jamie became a member of the Bushwackers in 1985 and marched with the corps for 13 years; 1985, 1989, 1991-1997, 1999, 2002, 2003, & 2006. He was a soloist for 12 of those years, soprano/trumpet section leader for 10, and horn sergeant for 9. He won 3 DCA Championships 1989, 1992 & 1993 and 2 High Brass awards in 1993 & 2006. He was also voted hornline member of the year in 1992 and Bushwacker of the year in 1993. He even spent a year on the Board of Directors in the late 90s. The corps’ uniforms that were worn starting in the summer of 2003 were made in Jamie’s house.
Jamie left a legacy of leadership that continues to this day and helped mold some of the many young, talented, musicians who always seemed to find their way to the Bushwackers. Even with all the titles and accolades, Jamie always came back to the Bushwackers because of the people. Some of his lasting friendships are with other Bushwackers he met through the years. He even married another Bushwacker, Carla Christian.
Jamie will always be remembered as an intense performer and solid, dependable soloist, but also a friend you could talk to late into Sunday nights after rehearsals.
It is with great pride we welcome Jamie into the Bushwacker Hall of Fame.
