Scott began his Drum Corps career as a horn player in the early 1970’s with the Valley Grenadiers, from Hillsdale, NJ. He then moved on to the Royal Brigade, from the Rutherford area of NJ. During his three years in Brigade (1978-1980) Scott became part oif a group of friends there that would eventually move to the new DCA corps, the Bushwackers.
Scott was a marching brass member from 1982-1990, winning 4 DCA World Championships. From 1991-1995, Scott was part of the visual staff, winning 2 more championships for a total of 6. He was one of the most dedicated members of the corps, giving 100% all of the time. As the corps traveled, Scott was always talking to people about the corps, always recruiting. A true “Bushwacker Ambassador” who brought the corps talented players, some who lasted for many years.
Socially, Scott had much to do with creating the glue that allowed many friendships to develop in the early years, and this bond would be the strength for the future success of the corps. (OK, he had some great parties…)
Scott’s dedication and sacrifices may have gone unnoticed by many, except for one member in particular, Cathy Hamilton, who eventually became his wife. They went on to have 3 children; Ian, Erica, and Patrick. Yet another Bushwacker marriage!

Today, as an alumnus, Scott is always cheering for the corps, and looking forward to the next opportunity he can share a story with our new members so they can feel included in the history that makes us all Bushwackers.
It is with great pride we welcome Scott Graef into the Bushwacker Hall of Fame.
