Announcing the 2017 Bushwackers visual team

The Bushwackers Drum Corps from Princeton, New Jersey is pleased to announce the visual team for the 2017 edition of the corps!

The 2017 visual instructional team will be led by Jordan Fisch, caption head. With Justin McAdams serving as drill writer and Joe Roche serving as visual consultant, supporting Jordan on the visual instructional staff will be Jason Welsh, Jason Surkin, and Josh Kelley.

Get to meet the staff of the Bushwackers and other members at the December rehearsal weekend, December 17 to 18, in Princeton, New Jersey. Registration is still open for this and future rehearsals, and information is available by completing the form at joinbush.org.

Jordan Fisch will be the visual caption head for the 2017 Bushwackers. He has been working with marching bands in New Jersey and Pennsylvania since 2008 and currently writes drill and works with several competitive marching bands outside his hometown of Jackson, New Jersey. He also marched with the Crossmen, Boston Crusaders, and The Cadets. Jordan graduated from West Chester University with a bachelor’s degree in music education. While there he served in the role of student coordinator of the West Chester University Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band for three years alongside the leadership and guidance of Dr. Andrew Yozviak and Dr. Greg Martin.

Justin McAdams will return to the Bushwackers in the role of drill writer. Justin, a former drum major and visual consultant with the Bushwackers, is currently the band director of Phoenixville High School in Pennsylvania and lead clinician for the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy. He is also the visual designer for the University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hen Marching Band and Aftermath Percussion.

Jason Welsh will join the 2017 Bushwackers as a visual tech. He has taught marching bands since 2008, including Neshaminy, Coucil Rock South, and Chesapeake (Maryland) in various capacities ranging from music/visual tech to assistant marching band director. Jason is currently the middle school band and chorus director at Monarch Global Academy in Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Maryland. He graduated from West Chester University with a degree in music education, and he marched with the Crossmen and The Cadets.

Josh Kelley will return to the Bushwackers in the role of visual tech, a position he held in 2016 as well. Josh is a fifteen-year veteran of the Bushwackers, and in that time he has marched cymbals, snare, tuba, baritone, euphonium, trumpet, bass drum, mellophone, and most recently front ensemble (piano) for the corps’ 2016 production, Piano Forte. Josh began his marching career at Spring Ford High School. Josh also marched with the Crossmen on snare.

Jason Surkin is joining the 2017 Bushwackers staff as visual/cymbals technician. He has previously taught the Abington Senior High School Indoor Drumline and the Loyalsock Township High School Marching Band, both in Pennsylvania. Jason has marched with the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps and the Crossmen.

Joe Roche will serve as a visual consultant for the 2017 Bushwackers, similar to his role in 2016. Joe runs his own consulting business, Achieve!, a motivational coaching company serving marching bands and other student groups across America. He was a visual consultant for the DCI world champion Bluecoats in 2016. Joe has served on the visual staffs of Star of Indiana, Madison Scouts, Long Island Sunrisers, and the Connecticut Hurricanes. With The Cadets, Joe joined the visual staff in 1987 and rose to the rank of visual caption head for 1989 through 1992. Since then, Joe has remained active as an adjudicator and instructor in the pageantry world across the country.
