The Bushwacker Hall of Fame Committee is proud to announce the Hall of Fame Class of 2013:
David DeMello
Dave was a percussion instructor for the Bushwacker bass lines of the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. He continued the tradition of great Bush bass lines that came before and won percussion titles. Dave’s commitment to the Bushwackers and the percussion section were exemplary. As years went on, and Dave was not part of the instructional staff, he would be asked to come in before championship weekend and his short tenure created marked improvement in the bass line. His leadership and direction made an impact on many Bushwacker members.
Genny Trossello Nielsen
After spending her first year with the Bushwackers pit, Genny marched 12 consecutive years in the bass line, a Bushwacker percussion record. In a heavily male dominated activity, Genny carried the 36 inch thunder bass for the corps and not many women in DCA can put that on their resume. She was a great member, always making new members feel at home and welcome in the Bushwackers. She would make sure new members would have lunch or dinner, often sharing her food with them, and make sure they had a place to stay overnight. On more than a few occasions, young girls would come up to her after a show and told Genny she was an inspiration to them.
We congratulate both Genny and Dave on this honor. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be part of a separate announcement, so stay tuned!
